Costa Rica
Costa Rica
Costa Rica is the perfect spot for a complete thrilling outdoor adventure and some major relaxation time. We fell in love with the rainforest, the food, the osos peresozos (sloths), the Ticos, the adventures, and all the natural beauty of the country.
Costa Rica is the greenest place we’ve ever been to, perhaps because of the rainy season and the VERY rainy season, as the locals describe their two rainforest seasons. The rain never stopped us from going on adventures; in fact, it made our activities more exciting and fun.
Our adventurer spirits called for some excitement and so we booked daily activities through the amazing Ecoterra company, which went above and beyond in making sure we had the best experience ever.
The first activity we did was a hike through several hanging bridges above the jungle. It was so much fun to explore the rainforest as we crossed through different hanging bridges. Along the way, we saw snakes, frogs, and birds. Be ready to conquer your fear of heights while enjoying the views from high above.
The following day we went white water rafting. It was the most thrilling and adrenaline-rushing activity on our itinerary. We rafted down the Balsa River for about 8 miles. Our adventure was extreme as there were areas where the raft almost capsized. It was our first time rafting and we loved every second of it.
For a quicker and fun way to explore the jungle, try ziplining your way through different obstacles. We saw majestic waterfalls that can only be seen from the zips. After our daring ziplining recreation, we were gifted with the opportunity to visit a Maleku village. We got to learn about the culture and meet some of the native Indian residents.
A trip to Costa Rica would not be complete without hiking up a volcano. We chose to hike up to the magnificent Arenal Volcano. We hiked around the lower part of the volcano as it is still active and getting near the top is prohibited. The views from above were stunning!
Another great and amusing activity included spelunking at Venado Caves. We got down and dirty (literally) as we delved into the caves. For those who do not suffer from claustrophobia, this is a must do! There are spectacular rock formations found inside the cave. We also saw blood-sucking bats as they flew above our heads.
After so many outdoor activities, the best way to relax your body is to visit a natural hot spring. We chose to go to Tabacon Resort for a romantic evening retreat. We soaked our bodies in the naturally heated rivers and pools. To top it off, we had a all you can eat dinner buffet!
Costa Rica is one of those places that everyone must check off their bucket list. It is a complete package full of endless fun and adventure. The people are warm and welcoming, the food is delicious, the views are incredible and there’s so much to see. It is definitely Pura Vida!
