Tips When Visiting Archaeological Sites
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2017
We are fascinated about archeological sites. Oaxaca has many Zapotec archaeological sites that you must visit. Here are some tips to keep in mind when visiting sites to get the best out of your visits, protect yourself from the heat, avoid the long lines and crowds, and get great shots of the sites.
Arrive Early
Wake up early and be at the sites as soon as they open. You will be happy to beat the heat, the long lines, and the large crowds from tour buses. Plus, you can take photos without having to crop people out.
Take A Guided Tour
Go on a guided tour with other visitors to pay a cheaper rate. If you try to book a private tour, you’ll end up paying way too much. Not worth it!
Bring Water
Bottled water is necessary when visiting sites. Carry it in your backpack and hydrate often.
Bring A Hat Or An Umbrella
Protecting yourself from the sun rays is important. Tours can sometimes take up to two hours and you’ll be more comfortable if you bring a hat.
Use Sun Block
Archaeological sites are usually open spaces with little or no shade. Don’t forget to bring your sunblock with you and reapply as needed.
Wear Long Sleeve Shirts
Long sleeve shirts will help you stay cool and avoid you from getting a sunburn on your arms. Plus they’re so light you can easily carry them everywhere.
Wear Comfortable Walking Shoes
Many sites in Oaxaca are very large and long walks are required. Wear tennis shoes or comfortable strap-on sandals for better support. Several sites have pyramids you can climb so be sure you’re wearing the right shoes.
