COSTA RICA – White Water Rafting In The Balsa River

White Water Rafting In The Balsa River

POSTED ON JANUARY 23, 2019

If you have never experienced white water rafting before, you are missing out! And don’t panic, there’s lessons you can take a few minutes before going into the water. Everyone learns on their first time and walks away feeling accomplished. The instructors are very skilled and knowledgeable on how to go about steering through the tamed waters on the Balsa River.

There are photographers present throughout the adventure so there is no need to bring a digital camera. If you feel the need to record your event, you may bring a GoPro along with you to attach to your helmet. Make sure you either have the waterproof case with you or that your GoPro can survive getting wet with water.

You will be given a life jacket, a helmet, and your very own paddle. We recommend binging water shoes for better grip.

We rafted 8 miles down the Balsa River. It was about 2 hours of exciting water adventures doing 360s, wheelies, and having lots of fun!

We’re not going to lie, some of the jumps we made were pretty scary and we felt like falling off the raft. A couple people in another raft did actually fell off but were helped immediately.

Instructors make the event so much fun. They allow the brave to ride the front of the raft simulating as if riding a bull. During shallow parts of the river, people are able to float outside of the raft and into the actual water. We loved every part of the ride! The thrill of the water waves is like no other!

Along the way, we could see beautiful greenery and hear the many birds and monkeys living in the rain forest. Some people saw crocodiles too…we did not! Thank goodness!

Food is included in the event. Half way during the adventure, we stopped on a small piece of land on the river to snack on watermelons and pineapples on the makeshift “table” with the upside down raft. A full Costa Rican lunch course is also provided after rafting and before returning to hotel. Beer is $2 dollars in case you’re thirsty. You will be hungry after rafting and the food is delicious and filling!
